One day a week can make a world of difference
Peabodys had the chance to sit down with the St George’s University of London’s Environmental Working Group to discuss an initiative known as Meat free Monday. This is a campaign to reduce out intake of meet to support the environment on agricultural impact to the environment. We therefore have reduced our meatless options to encourage people to swap this for 1 day a week.
Peabodys joined the Meat free Monday campaign in June 2022.
It has been an eye-opening read finding out all the facts and figures surrounding agricultural farming and its impacts on the planet. For example, animal agriculture creates vast amounts of harmful greenhouse gases and is a major contributor to climate change: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) estimates that livestock production is responsible for 14.5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, while other organisations have estimated it could be as much as 51%. It depletes precious resources – land, water, and energy: the World Watch Institute estimates that a staggering 70% of the world’s freshwater supplies goes towards agriculture – a third of this to grow animal feed crops.
