NHS Statistics show that we have a lot of sugar in our diets. In fact 700g of it a week, which is the same as 140 teaspoons per person. At meal times we are faced with the same dilemmas when it comes to choosing to eat less sugar.
It is not always so obvious either. Lots of so called ‘healthy’ breakfast cereals are full with sugar. At Peabodys we champion a bowl of good old fashioned porridge oats, crunchy granola or Bran Flakes for breakfast. Couple those with some natural yogurt, fruit and seeds and you have hearty, delicious breakfast that will keep those hunger pangs away till lunch.
Talking of lunch we can certainly recommend choosing from our range of freshly made salads, sandwiches, available in wheat free options also. Hot dishes we have include delicious pasta or curry, perfect for these chilly months.
As well as drinking water, a fresh fruit smoothie or juice, we love to create our own salads as the main event. At Green House our salads are a healthy celebration of deliciously fresh ingredients. Put together by yours truly! Begin by choosing a base ingredient such as couscous, quinoa or salad leaves, add five tasty meat or vegetable options from the deli and top off your salad creation with one of our signature dressings.
Nowadays society is beginning to realise the ill effects of high-sugar foods in our diets. Having become so much a part of the mainstream foods we eat, we can easily get confused about the right foods to eat. We feel the best way is to keep as close to nature as possible. Simple food. Well made, with love.
It is no secret that humans evolved through time by eating natural foods, foraged foods, hunted or grown. It is easy to lose that connection with food and at Peabodys we feel it is important to re-establish that link. Try a little less sugar in your diet and see how you feel.
